脳トレって、日本だけでなく海外でも人気があるの？

「脳トレで記憶力アップ無理」　仏国教授調査の中身 2月1日20時25分配信 J-CASTニュース
　大ヒットゲームソフト「脳を鍛える大人のDSトレーニング」。このソフトをプレイしても記憶力の向上に全く役立たない――こんな海外の報道があり、ネット上で話題になっている。

■記憶力に関する回答率は17 ％低下
　　「Nintendo brain-trainer 'no better than pencil and paper'【ニンテンドーDSを使った脳トレは『鉛筆と紙』と同程度だ】」
　こんな見出しで記事を配信したのは、イギリスのTimes Online（09年1月26日付）。記事によれば、フランスのレンヌ大学に所属する認知心理学のAlain Lieury教授の調査によると、「脳トレ」は記憶力を強化するといわれるゲームでありながら、記憶力に関しては全く効果がないというのだ。
　実験によれば、67人の10歳児を4つのグループに分け、2つのグループにはニンテンドーDSを使った記憶力コースをプレイさせた。もう一つのグループには紙と鉛筆を使ったパズルを課し、最後の一つのグループには通常通りの授業参加とした。ソフトには、「Big Brain Academy（『やわらか頭塾』）」と「Brain Training（『脳を鍛える大人のDSトレーニング』）」を使い、期間を7週間とした。
　この実験の前後に、子供たちはロジックテストや言葉の暗記、計算などのテストを受けさせた。その結果、記憶力に関する問題の回答率は「DSグループ」は 17 ％低下してしまい、「紙と鉛筆グループ」では33％向上したという。また、論理テストでは、「DSグループ」「紙と鉛筆グループ」が10 ％の向上を示したのに対して、「学校に行ったグループ」は20 ％の向上だった。そして、Alain Lieury教授はこう結論づけた。

　　「能力改善の可能性が高い10歳の子供たちで改善が見られないならば、大人が試しても同じことだ」
　とはいえ、いささか暴論じみているこの見方に対して、ネット上でも疑問が噴出している。ネット掲示板2ちゃんねるでも、
　　「まだ記憶力が衰えていない子供でテストして意味あるんだろうか？」
　　「子どもは元々の反射神経が高いから、目立つ効果がなくて当たり前じゃね」
　　「トレーニングをやらせるのにDSはツールとしては優秀なのも事実」
　などと、実験自体に疑問視する向きがあった。

■学会での報告なければ判断できない
　では、「脳を鍛える大人のDSトレーニング」には、どういった学習効果が期待できるのか。
　「脳を鍛える大人のDSトレーニング」（以下、「脳トレDS」）は、読み・書き・計算を反復が、脳の血流をよくする効果が期待できるという川島教授の仮説をもとにしたソフトだ。「脳トレDS」のホームページによれば、「毎日、積極的に脳を使う習慣をつけることによって、脳の機能の低下を防ぐことができるのです」と川島教授はコメントしている。つまり、記憶力の向上というよりは、むしろ脳の活性化がポイントだ。
　また、学校教育で取り入れて成功した例もある。スコットランドのある小学校が毎朝10～15分程度、「脳トレDS」の「脳年齢チェック」に取り組んだところ、子供たちの回答率が高まっただけでなく、落ち着いた態度になったという。
　「脳トレDS」の効果について、発売元の任天堂はどうとらえているのか。同社の広報室はこう話す。
　　「（フランスの実験例が）どういった調査で、どのような効能の有無があったのか状況がわかりませんし、学会での報告がなければ判断はできません。ただ、『大人の脳トレDS』はネガティブな例を聞くことはほとんどなく、むしろポジティブな例は多いです。何らかの害がでたという話もありません」
　なお、「脳を鍛える大人のDSトレーニング」は全世界で累計1448万本が、続編の「もっと脳を鍛える大人のDSトレーニング」は1203万本を売り上げている（08年9月現在）。

今年のお正月、母の友人からの年賀状に「ボケ防止の為に脳トレをやっています」と書いてあり、母も「お母さんも、最近、脳トレで数独しているのよ」と言い出した。
母は「脳トレ」を勘違いしていて、任天堂のゲームソフト「脳を鍛える大人のDSトレーニング」を指したのではなく、「脳のトレーニングのために、（冊子として販売されている）数独のパズルをしている」という事だった。
母の友人も、母と同じような勘違いをしている可能性はあるけど、最近は携帯ゲームに夢中になっている高齢者も良く見かけるから、本当に「脳を鍛える大人のDSトレーニング」をしていても不思議はない。

指先を動かしたり、単純な動作で脳を使うのは記憶力というより、脳の活性化だと思う。
そういう意味で、「ボケ防止」には効果があると思うけど、子供の記憶力への効果はどうなのかな？
子供なんて、何もしなくても記憶力が高いのだから、ゲームをしようがしまいが記憶力にあまり違いは無いように思う。
でも、昔からある100マス計算のように、脳が活性化して反応が早くなるという効果は期待できるんじゃないかな。

とはいえ、脳の活性化のために必ずゲームソフトを使う必要もなく、母のように別の媒体・方法でも活性化を図ることは可能だと思うよ。
まぁ、携帯ゲーム機のソフトというのは、何処ででも、ちょっとした時間の隙間にできるという利点はあるけどね。

で、私はといえば、母に「脳トレ」を買ってあげるのではなく、無料で遊べる数独のPCサイトを教えてあげたのでした(^^ゞ
